An engrossing profile of an extraordinary guidance counselor who helps kids get into the right colleges through focusing on self- awareness Gwyeth Smith, known as Smitty, is a nationally renowned guidance counselor who believes that getting into college should be a kid`s first great moment of self-discovery. In Acceptance, David L. Marcus, Pulitzer Prize-winning former education writer for U.S. News & World Report, spins an absorbing narrative of a year in the lives of Smitty and "his" kids. At a diverse public school in Long Island, New York, Smitty works his unique magic on students` applications and their lives, helping them find the right college by figuring out who they are, rather than focusing on what their test scores, grades, and finances reflect. Loaded with advice that readers can apply to their own college searches, Acceptance is a book that thousands of students and their parents will find indispensable.

?Believing that something is wrong with us is a deep and tenacious suffering,? says Tara Brach at the start of this illuminating book. This suffering emerges in crippling self-judgments and conflicts in our relationships, in addictions and perfectionism, in loneliness and overwork-all the forces that keep our lives constricted and unfulfilled. Radical Acceptance offers a path to freedom, including the day-to-day practical guidance developed over Dr. Brach`s twenty years of work with therapy clients and Buddhist students.Writing with great warmth and clarity, Tara Brach brings her teachings alive through personal stories and case histories, fresh interpretations of Buddhist tales, and guided meditations. Step by step, she leads us to trust our innate goodness, showing how we can develop the balance of clear-sightedness and compassion that is the essence of Radical Acceptance. Radical Acceptance does not mean self-indulgence or passivity. Instead it empowers genuine change: healing fear and shame and helping to build loving, authentic relationships. When we stop being at war with ourselves, we are free to live fully every precious moment of our lives.
Tipping a waiter/ress on a credit card slip instead of with cash?
Just wondering how this works... I usually tip my server by writing in the tip on my credit card receipt, as I never carry cash. In most restaurants, the server collects the signed receipt with the tip on it. I always assumed they record their tip when they collect the receipt..
But, in restaurants where you pay up at the front, how does the server receive their tip? Does the server get a list of all their tips at the end of the night? Do they know who tipped them what amount? Do they receive the actual cash that day for tips earned or do they have to wait until pay day weeks later to get their tips?
Basically I'm wondering if my not tipping in cash makes the server have to wait longer to get their tip or not.
no, it is collected, and they are paid out in cash later in the day.

I need serious answers-teachers and adults prefered?
Ok so i need serious answers
I am a good student..always been honest and nice
But ok on thursday i was looking for definitions on the internet for our vocabulary we do in history..we usually look them up in the book and they are ALL THE SAME
So i couldn't find one so i asked a girl who already had it done if i could see what she got for it. the bell rang so i asked if i could give it to her the next day. I completely forgot i had hers and wouldn't of cheated off it anyways..but got all my answers except that one from our books and the internet.
So i was sick the next day and couldn't give it to her so she got a zero..i felt terrible and wrecked about it so I sent an email to our teacher telling him to give her credit and me a zero. I told her i was sorry and that i would take a zero instead because it was my fault. So..my question is..will i just take the zero or will i get in further trouble?
Best thing to do is sit down with the teacher and explain what had happened and see what the teachers says .

The original title of Tito Puente's final album was Por Fin--"Finally"--a reference to the fact that Puente and fellow Latin-jazz titan Eddie Palmieri never had recorded together, despite Puente's work with pianist Palmieri's brother Charlie early in their careers. Obra Maestra--"Masterpiece"--however, is an equally apt description for this set of a dozen mostly uptempo performances recorded...

I am going on Vacation to Orlando Soon and I am bringing my Vera Bradley Back Pack. What Should I put in it. I also have the vera bradley carry it all wristlet that I clip onto it so it can just clip it off and take it with me. The wristlet has money and id and credit card, but I also have a separate wallet with money and stuff just in case. Can you list everything I would need to put in the backpack. P.S.-I have clothes and stuff in a suitcase! The backpack is for walking around and stuff. Please provide prices with the items if possible in case I would need to buy them!
Also Im not sure how big the backpack is so try to keep it under 20 items! (:
First, if you need to take any regular or "as needed" medications, you should obviously put them first on your list. But otherwise, basic things that you would use or might use on the spur of the moment in Orlando. Take a swim suit, towel, sunblock (and maybe a couple of plastic bags in case you use them and need to put wet stuff back into the backpack. You also might want to take a light change of clothes, sometimes after swimming, it just feels good to put something clean on afterwards. Florida is a hot area and it is important to keep yourself hydrated, so packing an extra water bottle or even two wouldn't hurt. If you are a girl, maybe take some basic make up for touch ups if you use it. A few dollars for emergency money never hurts. If you are sexually active, throw in some condoms, just in case. If you have a boyfriend (or if you are a guy, a girlfriend) back home that you want to be faithful to, Taking along a good picture of him/her or of the two of you can help if you get tempted to stray. If you are a Christian, a small bible might be nice. A list of emergency telephone numbers (your parents, friends, etc.) in case you get stuck somewhere or run into a problem and need their help, especially if you lose your own cell phone, and of course either a phone card or a bunch of loose change for a payphone. It is good that you are taking the bulk of your stuff in your suitcase(es). Use the backpack for daily outings for things that might come up unexpectedly. You can repack it each morning for things you think might come up each day depending on what you are doing that day and where you are going.

I went to a car dealerships and had my credit ran by the finance guy. At the same time he had his girlfriend sitting at the desk with him all while discussing my information with the sales person. I was approved and later found out that because I owed too much on my trade in that I had only one choice of car to choose from, which I was fine with, but the the sales guy, accidently I'm assuming, told me that the finance said with my credit being so bad I can't be choosey ( I only asked for a specific color). I have never been so humiliated in my whole life. Shouldn't there be some type of privacy law to prevent this from happening?
There are laws preventing your medical information from being discussed, but not financial. Your account numbers adn social security number and such need to be kept private, but not the overall.
However, it is a horrible business practice and he should be reported to his boss or the CEO or something. He will likely be fired for it. In the future, I wouldn't stand for this. Take your business elsewhere. This guy may have only given you one choice, but when you threaten to leave, suddenly more come out, and going elsewhere, complaining slightly about this guys treatment of you, can give the next dealer the heads up that you won't do business there if they don't respect you and that you are very willing to leave if they do.
I've done it myself. Was treated badly at a dealership, treated like I they were doing me some favor by granting me an appearance. I left, went elsewhere and found a new car for about the same as I was willing to pay the last place for a used one.
I made a point of driving my new car to the first dealership, finding that sales guy and giving him the line from Pretty Woman "You make commission right? Big mistake fella... BIG MISTAKE!" I've never felt better.

In this book, the authors give an applied approach to relative value techniques, showing readers how to decide on the best place to put their money in order to get the best return.  They cover multiple asset classes – fixed income, commodities and equities although the main focus is fixed income.  They cover products that are rarely documented such as CMS floaters and structured interest and credit products. The initial part of the book will consider the main derivative products and their pricing interrelationships.  It argues that within any asset class there are mathematical relationships that tie together four key building blocks: cash products, forwards / futures, swaps and options.  The nature of these interrelationships means that there may be a variety of different ways in which a particular strategy can be expressed. The second part of the book will be focused primarily on relative value within a fixed income context and will look at strategies that build on the pricing relationships between products as well as those that focus on how to identify the optimal way to express a view on the movement of the yield curve. The third part of the book will take the main themes of relative value and show how they could be applied within other asset classes.

If you want to gain a better understanding of how credit derivatives can help your trading or investing endeavors, then Credit Risk Frontiers is a book you need to read."--
The credit derivatives industry has come under close scrutiny over the past few years, with the recent financial crisis highlighting the instability of a number of credit structures and throwing the industry into turmoil. What has been made clear by recent events is the necessity for a thorough understanding of credit derivatives by all parties involved in a transaction, especially traders, structurers, quants and investors. Fully revised and updated to take in to account the new products, markets and risk requirements post financial crisis, Credit Derivatives: Trading, Investing and Risk Management, Second Edition, covers the subject from a real world perspective, tackling issues such as liquidity, poor data, and credit spreads, to the latest innovations in portfolio products, hedging and risk management techniques. The book concentrates on practical issues and develops an understanding of the products through applications and detailed analysis of the risks and alternative means of trading. It provides: a description of the key products, applications, and an analysis of typical trades including basis trading, hedging, and credit structuring; analysis of the industry standard ‘default and recovery’ and Copula models including many examples, and a description of the models’ shortcomings; tools and techniques for the management of a portfolio or book of credit risks including appropriate and inappropriate methods of correlation risk management; a thorough analysis of counterparty risk; an intuitive understanding of credit correlation in reality and in the Copula model. The book is thoroughly updated to reflect the changes the industry has seen over the past 5 years, notably with an analysis of the lead up and causes of the credit crisis. It contains 50% new material, which includes copula valuation an
The subprime mortgage loan crisis in the US has developed into a broad credit and credit derivatives crisis lately. In previous years the credit derivatives market experienced growth rates of over 100% per year, outpacing all other derivative segments. This highlights the tremendous demand for credit derivatives, which is likely to remain high despite the current turmoil, but also shows how vulnerable markets have become with respect to this asset class. Consequently, a comprehensive understanding of the risks and mechanisms of the market is essential. Market participants who neglect this necessity face large downside risks, while those who have adequate and efficient risk management processes in place will be rewarded with an attractive risk return profile. This book aims at providing a reference guide to the credit and credit derivatives universe. It covers topics ranging from basic valuation principles for plain-vanilla products to insights into the latest development in sophisticated structured credit products. The authors explain in detail, but always with a hands-on practical perspective, all relevant instruments and quantitative valuation techniques. They show how these instruments can be integrated in a portfolio context and how efficient portfolio management is implemented. Moreover, the authors show how to develop and implement trading and investment strategies in the credit market.
An up-to-date resource on the intricacies of the credit default swap basisWhile credit default swaps and credit derivatives are of great concern to many in the field of finance, the Second Edition of The Credit Default Swap Basis does not directly focus on these issues. It is instead about an aspect of CDS behavior, the basis, which is of importance to all users of CDS products. An understanding of the basis is essential to anyone involved in the credit-risky debt capital markets, whether you`re an investor, trader, or broker. The credit default swap basis (the basis) defines the relationship between the cash and synthetic credit markets. Finance professionals need to understand the drivers of the basis in order to better undertake investment and value analysis, and for trading purposes. In this updated Second Edition, author Moorad Choudhry, a market practitioner who has published widely in the field of credit derivatives, explores this dynamic discipline and examines the structural changes in the CDS market, including new settlement mechanisms and contract standardization. Along the way, he describes how basis pricing has changed in the aftermath of the financial crisis and what that change means in regard to overall market and trading opportunities. The only book on basis issues of credit default swaps, it provides practitioners with vital information on valuation, credit risk assessment, and basis trading strategiesAddresses structural changes to the market, including the introduction of central clearing houses in the U.S. and Europe and standardization of contracts to reduce disputes about payout settlementsCovers the close relationship between the synthetic and cash markets in credit, which manifests itself in the credit default swap basisThe Credit Default Swap Basis, Second Edition offers invaluable market insights to all financial professionals seeking a deeper understanding of cr
The first decade of the 21st Century has been disastrous for financial institutions, derivatives and risk management. Counterparty credit risk has become the key element of financial risk management, highlighted by the bankruptcy of the investment bank Lehman Brothers and failure of other high profile institutions such as Bear Sterns, AIG, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The sudden realisation of extensive counterparty risks has severely compromised the health of global financial markets. Counterparty risk is now a key problem for all financial institutions. This book explains the emergence of counterparty risk during the recent credit crisis. The quantification of firm-wide credit exposure for trading desks and businesses is discussed alongside risk mitigation methods such as netting and collateral management (margining). Banks and other financial institutions have been recently developing their capabilities for pricing counterparty risk and these elements are considered in detail via a characterisation of credit value adjustment (CVA). The implications of an institution valuing their own default via debt value adjustment (DVA) are also considered at length. Hedging aspects, together with the associated instruments such as credit defaults swaps (CDSs) and contingent CDS (CCDS) are described in full. A key feature of the credit crisis has been the realisation of wrong-way risks illustrated by the failure of monoline insurance companies. Wrong-way counterparty risks are addressed in detail in relation to interest rate, foreign exchange, commodity and, in particular, credit derivative products. Portfolio counterparty risk is covered, together with the regulatory aspects as defined by the Basel II capital requirements. The management of counterparty risk within an institution is also discussed in detail. Finally, the design and benefits of central clearing, a recent development to attempt to control the rapid growth of counterparty risk, is cons

New issues in Financial and Credit Markets presents a contemporary insight into key trends impacting on the financial sector post crisis and highlights areas of major policy and academic interest. This book covers four main themes: financial crises, credit activity, capital markets and risk management. It is drawn from the Europen Association of University Teachers of Banking and Finance Conference (otherwise known as the Wolpertinger Conference) held at the University of Rome III, Italy in September 2009.

Is there any way to use my credit card for a private seller without getting a cash advance?
I wanted to use a credit card to buy a cheap car but I wanted to buy it from a private seller? Is there any way to do that without getting a cash advance because that is expensive!?
A private seller is not a merchant or a store and has no way to process your credit card. He might take Paypal if he has a Paypal account and if you open a Paypal account linked to your credit card. If you cannot pay cash, don't buy it.

Credit rating agencies play a critical role in capital markets, guiding the asset allocation of institutional investors as private capital moves freely around the world in search of the best trade-off between risk and return. However, they have also been strongly criticised for failing to spot the Asian crisis in the early 1990s, the Enron, WorldCom and Parmalat collapses in the early 2000s and finally for their ratings of subprime-related structured finance instruments and their role in the current financial crisis. This book is a guide to ratings, the ratings industry and the mechanics and economics of obtaining a rating. It sheds light on the role that the agencies play in the international financial markets. It avoids the sensationalist approach often associated with studies of rating scandals and the financial crisis, and instead provides an objective and critical analysis of the business of ratings. The book will be of practical use to any individual who has to deal with ratings and the ratings industry in their day-to-day job. Reviews "Rating agencies fulfil an important role in the capital markets, but given their power, they are frequently the object of criticism.  Some of it is justified but most of it portrays a lack of understanding of their business.  In their book The Rating Agencies and their Credit Ratings, Herwig and Patricia Langohr provide an excellent economic background to the role of rating agencies and also a thorough understanding of their business and the problems they face.  I recommend this book to all those who have an interest in this somewhat arcane but extremely important area." -Robin Monro-Davies, Former CEO, Fitch Ratings. "At a time of unprecedented public and political scrutiny of the effectiveness and indeed the basic business model of the Credit Rating industry, and heightened concerns regarding the transparency and accountability of the leading agen
Credit rating agencies play a powerful and contentious role in the governance of global financial markets. Introducing an original framework for delegating political authority to private actors, this book explains common trends in the regulatory use of private ratings for public purposes and analyzes regulatory changes after the Financial Crisis.
Director Steven Spielberg`s World War II tour de force chronicles the journey of a GI squad on a dangerous mission behind enemy lines. Led by Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks), the unit is under orders to track down a soldier, Private Ryan (Matt Damon), so he might return home to his mother in America, where she is grieving the unimaginable loss of her three other sons to the war. The first unforgettable 20 minutes of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN realistically and horrifically depicts the Normandy invasion as Miller. his second-in-command, Sergeant Horvath (Tom Sizemore), and the others in the unit land at Omaha Beach. Before the film began shooting, Hanks and the actors in his squad went through a one-week boot camp in the woods. All the actors, except Hanks, wanted to quit, but Hanks rallied their spirits by reminding them of the incredible tribulations endured by the real veterans of World War II. Production designer Tom Sanders found a beach in Ireland that perfectly matched the landscape of Normandys. Spielberg gave great credit to the Irish army who helped re-create the Omaha Beach scenes.
