Is it better to close a credit card or have more than three? Terms of Credit score?
I have two store creadit cards and i want one that i can use any where and i was just wondering should i close one of the store cards or have three credit cards?
Dont close them... even if you had bad payment history. As long as its fixed, or if you are planning on fixing it, it will report as good credit, increasing your credit score. It is ok to keep them in the drawer or cut them up and just use the one... in fact, this is smart
Credit is measured in a complex, secretive way. But heres the basics.
1) History - this is a record of all debts incured and payments made. Credit agencies use this to determine whether you make good payments.
2) Debt to Income Ratio - This is how much debt you have (including available credit) versus how much you make. Ideally, You dont want more than 10-20% debt. This includes car loans, house loans, credit card limits, store cards, etc. Few peole follow this rule, especially when buying cars/houses.
Fyi, creditors generally set minimum payment amounts to make money and keep you in debt. Try not to swipe for anything you cant pay within a reasonable timeframe and pay at least double the min. If you cant afford this, you cant afford your lifestyle and youll be in debt forever unless you change your spending.

A classic book on credit risk management is updated to reflect the current economic crisis Credit Risk Management In and Out of the Financial Crisis dissects the 2007-2008 credit crisis and provides solutions for professionals looking to better manage risk through modeling and new technology. This book is a complete update to Credit Risk Measurement: New Approaches to Value at Risk and Other Paradigms, reflecting events stemming from the recent credit crisis. Authors Anthony Saunders and Linda Allen address everything from the implications of new regulations to how the new rules will change everyday activity in the finance industry. They also provide techniques for modeling-credit scoring, structural, and reduced form models-while offering sound advice for stress testing credit risk models and when to accept or reject loans. Breaks down the latest credit risk measurement and modeling techniques and simplifies many of the technical and analytical details surrounding them Concentrates on the underlying economics to objectively evaluate new models Includes new chapters on how to prevent another crisis from occurring Understanding credit risk measurement is now more important than ever. Credit Risk Management In and Out of the Financial Crisis will solidify your knowledge of this dynamic discipline.
In the last decade rating-based models have become very popular in credit risk management. These systems use the rating of a company as the decisive variable to evaluate the default risk of a bond or loan. The popularity is due to the straightforwardness of the approach, and to the upcoming new capital accord (Basel II), which allows banks to base their capital requirements on internal as well as external rating systems. Because of this, sophisticated credit risk models are being developed or demanded by banks to assess the risk of their credit portfolio better by recognizing the different underlying sources of risk. As a consequence, not only default probabilities for certain rating categories but also the probabilities of moving from one rating state to another are important issues in such models for risk management and pricing. It is widely accepted that rating migrations and default probabilities show significant variations through time due to macroeconomics conditions or the business cycle. These changes in migration behavior may have a substantial impact on the value-at-risk (VAR) of a credit portfolio or the prices of credit derivatives such as collateralized debt obligations (D+CDOs). In this book the authors develop a much more sophisticated analysis of migration behavior. Their contribution of more sophisticated techniques to measure and forecast changes in migration behavior as well as determining adequate estimators for transition matrices is a major contribution to rating based credit modeling.*Internal ratings-based systems are widely used in banks to calculate their value-at-risk (VAR) in order to determine their capital requirements for loan and bond portfolios under Basel II*One aspect of these ratings systems is credit migrations, addressed in a systematic and comprehensive way for the first time in this book*The book is based on in-depth work by Trueck and Rachev,

I am worried as I have an appointment at the C.A.B tomorrow to do a debt relief order, (Bankrupcy), and I have 11,000 pounds in debt, but also now, over the last few weeks I have took out catalogue credit and run up an extra 2,000 grand. I know you can have up to 15,000 pounds debt to qualify for the D.R.O but I am not worried about that, I am worried that the official receiver will see that I have recently took out the credit. I wasn't taking more credit out expecting to put it into the D.R.O because I have put off doing the D.R.O for a couple of months because I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it or not, so I don't feel I have acted fraudulently, but will the official receiver think that?
Bit late now, isn't it ?
PS to be made Bankrupt you have to owe over 15,000 .... since you 'only' owe 13,000 you must be going for a voluntary agreement (IVA, DRO) == NOT the same as being made Bankrupt by the people you owe money to (which is not voluntary)
As to the Catalogue people == well if they were stupid enough to let you run up the debt, by all means add it to the IVA/DRO (and tell them they are never going to get paid) ...
Be aware that you are getting very close to the £15,000 limit (it's very easy for your creditors to add £2,000 in 'charges' to what you owe) so you are in danger of actually being made Bankrupt .. (which is a lot worse than a DRO)

"This book is an investigation into the economic policy formulation and practice of neoliberalism in Britain from the 1950s through to the financial crisis and economic downturn that began in 2007-8. It demonstrates that influential economists, such as F.A. Hayek and Milton Friedman, authors at key British think tanks such as the Institute of Economic Affairs and the Centre for Policy Studies, and important political figures of the Thatcher and New Labour governments shared a similar conception of the consumer. For neoliberals, the idea that consumers were weak in the face of businesses and large corporations was almost offensive. Instead, consumers were imagined to be sovereign agents in the economy, whose consumption decisions played a central role in the construction of their human capital and in the enabling of their aspirations. Consumption, just like production, came to be viewed as an enterprising and entrepreneurial activity. Consequently, from the early 1980s until the present day, it was felt necessary that banks should have the freedom to meet the borrowing needs of consumers. Credit rationing would be a thing of the past. Just like businesses, consumers and households could use debt to expand their stock of personal assets. By utilizing the method of French philosopher Michel Foucault this book provides an original analysis of the policy ideas and political speeches of key figures in the New Right, in government and at the Bank of England. And it addresses the key question as to why policy-makers both in Britain and the United States did little or nothing to stem rising consumer and household indebtedness, instead always choosing to see increasing house prices and homeownership as a positive to be encouraged"--

Before there was money, there was debt Every economics textbook says the same thing: Money was invented to replace onerous and complicated barter systems—to relieve ancient people from having to haul their goods to market. The problem with this version of history? There’s not a shred of evidence to support it. Here anthropologist David Graeber presents a stunning reversal of conventional wisdom. He shows that for more than 5,000 years, since the beginnings of the first agrarian empires, humans have used elaborate credit systems to buy and sell goods—that is, long before the invention of coins or cash. It is in this era, Graeber argues, that we also first encounter a society divided into debtors and creditors. Graeber shows that arguments about debt and debt forgiveness have been at the center of political debates from Italy to China, as well as sparking innumerable insurrections. He also brilliantly demonstrates that the language of the ancient works of law and religion (words like “guilt,” “sin,” and “redemption”) derive in large part from ancient debates about debt, and shape even our most basic ideas of right and wrong. We are still fighting these battles today without knowing it. Debt: The First 5,000 Years is a fascinating chronicle of this little known history—as well as how it has defined human history, and what it means for the credit crisis of the present day and the future of our economy. From the Hardcover edition.
An emerging spokesperson for a new generation addresses the grim state of young people today--and tells us how we can, and must, save our future. The nature of youth is to question, SO when 24-year-old Kamenetz started out as a journalist, she began asking hard questions for which no one seemed to have good answers. Why were her friends thousands of dollars in credit-card debt? Why did so many jobs for people under thirty-five involve a plastic name badge, last only for the short-term, and not include benefits? With record deficits and threats to Social Security, what kind of future was shaping up for the nation`s kids? In this book, she talks to experts in economics, labor markets, the health-care industry, and education, and amasses a startling array of evidence that building a secure life is harder for young people today than it was thirty years ago.--From publisher description.

Fast is good, and this book gets you up to speed with Android ‘X’ programming quickly and efficiently without wasting readers’ time explaining concepts that they are already familiar with. Android SDK Programming For Dummies provides the perfect solution for readers who already know how to program and just want to know about programming in the Android environment and the ins and outs of the latest Android SDK. Readers who are already familiar with object-oriented programming and syntax will find that Android SDK ‘X’ Programming For Dummies provides more of what they’re looking for and less of what they already understand.  The book begins by demonstrating a fully functional application that demonstrates a wide variety of Android features, including user interface design, application management, data and content management, incorporating external services, and interacting with hardware, the operating system, and networking. The book then goes through the process of building the application, creating the emulator, and running the application. The sample application demonstrates Android programming best practices, as developed by a professor with years of experience helping students with programs and anticipating pitfalls. The book then organizes the many packages of the Android SDK by functionality and tells the reader about which standards and features are appropriate for each level of Android SDK (because sometimes programmers want their applications to be written for an older Android version that may be in more widespread usage). New features of the latest Android SDK are explained fully with many programming examples and snippets that demonstrate how to effectively incorporate the features into new or existing applications. All programming examples, including the sample application, are available for download from the book’s website. Series features -- Like all

Consumer credit has become a topical issue for researchers, regulators and the banking industry in Europe as a result of increasing market integration, regulatory changes and a growing tendency of households to use debt to finance consumption. This study uses a cross-country approach to look at a broad range of issues related to consumer credit in Europe. Focusing on both the supply and demand sides, it takes into account the structure and performance of financial intermediaries, the socio-demographic and economic profile of households and their risk of over-indebtedness, as well as the regulatory framework, such as the new Consumer Credit Directive. In the light of this analysis, measures for the prevention and management of over-indebtedness are presented. This book is essential for postgraduate students and specialists in financial institutions, for regulators and policy-makers who are in charge of efficiency and stability of financial systems.

How do I update my personal info with credit bureaus?
I just want to update my phone number. I looked online and called some numbers for transunion and equifax in the phone book, and all I get is a bunch of stuff about free credit reports, fraud alerts and disputes.
I need to update my phone number because I put a fraud alert on my file, so I can't apply for credit anywhere without them calling my phone. And what info do I need to include if I mail them?
It can only be done by writing a letter to the agency in care of the ultra slow motion department.
Credit reporting agencies are very quick to make you look bad, but almost never helpful in correcting mis-information. For something as simple as your phone number, don't even bother, it don't mean diddly.

Winning entry, Professional Cover/Jacket Category, in the 2009 New England Book Show sponsored by Bookbuilders of Boston. and Winner, History Category, 2008 ASLI`s Choice Award given by the Atmospheric Science Librarians International. For much of the first half of the twentieth century, meteorology was more art than science, dependent on an individual forecaster`s lifetime of local experience. In Weather by the Numbers, Kristine Harper tells the story of the transformation of meteorology from a "guessing science" into a sophisticated scientific discipline based on physics and mathematics. What made this possible was the development of the electronic digital computer; earlier attempts at numerical weather prediction had foundered on the human inability to solve nonlinear equations quickly enough for timely forecasting. After World War II, the combination of an expanded observation network developed for military purposes, newly trained meteorologists, savvy about math and physics, and the nascent digital computer created a new way of approaching atmospheric theory and weather forecasting.Harper examines the efforts of meteorologists to professionalize their discipline during the interwar years and the rapid expansion of personnel and observational assets during World War II. She describes how, by the 1950s, academic, Weather Bureau, and military meteorologists had moved atmospheric modeling from research subject to operational forecasting. Challenging previous accounts that give sole credit for the development of numerical weather prediction to digital computer inventor John von Neumann, Harper points to the crucial contributions of Carl-Gustav Rossby (founder of MIT`s meteorology program and a member of the "Scandinavian Tag Team" working with von Neumann). This transformation of a discipline, Harper writes, was the most important intellectual achievement of twentieth-century meteorology, and paved the way for
