I was denied a Citi credit card for two reasons. The first was because my credit report shows "too few credit references." I have 2.. maybe 3 credit cards. Should that be enough?
And the second reason, (which i KNOW for a fact is untrue) is because of a late payment. I need to dispute that.
What should I do? Will they consider me again if I tell them this information?
Citi should have sent you a letter stating which credit agency they used to view your report. You have the legal right, even if you've already seen your report in the past 12 months, to request it after being denied. Contact that credit agency that Citi used and request it.
If you didn't have a late payment, you'll need to provide copied documentation with your dispute letter to reverse it.
The too few credit references means that you don't have a lot of credit in your report yet.

If your company, as a third party in a lending agreement, provide a monetary guarantee (with recourse) on the loan to the borrower, how do you account for that on your financial statements? Further, if the loan was a revolving line of credit, would any valuation given to the guarantee be based on the full capacity of the revolver, or just on the amount outstanding at any specific time? One last caveat, the lenders can not come to your company without first attempting to recover their money from the borrower, which makes it more like a contingent liability. Would cash need to be set aside as restricted for this?
Please help if you can - I've been looking in accounting literature but have been unable to find any specific guidance regarding this situation...

Don G is correct if you only do this on a one-time basis, have no history of having had to pay on one of these transactions, and/or have no information that would lead you to believe that the borrower for which you are providing the guarantee will not pay all or part of the obligation.
If your company does this on a regular basis and has a historical basis for having paid on the guarantee, the contingent liability now has a probability and is reasonably estimable and you must record the liability in the current period. Similarly, if you have information that the company for which you are providing the guarantee will not pay all or part of the obligation, you must also record the potential liability.
Your estimated liability is only the amount outstanding under a revolver at the balance sheet date. Although as accountants, we prefer to be conservative, assuming future borrowings under the revolver is too conservative and could lead to abuse.
Cash is typically not set aside for these types of contingencies UNLESS required by the loan contract.

It is common to blame the inadequacy of credit risk models for the fact that the financial crisis has caught many market participants by surprise.
